Ep 2: Ximending, Hwahsi Night Market and Bubble Tea

Ximending
Joanne-Marie takes a night stroll at Taipei's famous Ximending district in search of the quintessential bubble tea. Distracted by the sights and sounds, she gets carried away being trigger-happy with the Canon Powershot S110. This compact, sophisticated digital camera incorporates the most advanced Canon technologies enabling advanced users and photo-enthusiasts with the power to create stunning images that stand out from the crowd. It is the perfect camera for those looking for DSLR levels of control and performance, but still wanting something more pocketable.

Desperate for a drink, Joanne-Marie stops a local (who happened to be dressed in a similar outfit) and asks for help. Being known for being incredibly friendly and helpful, this local, as she was to learn later on, by the name of Xiao Kui, gladly took her to one of the best bubble tea joints in Taipei; Ten Ren Ming Cha. The fragrance of freshly brewed tea fills the surrounding air, and despite the hustle and bustle of the night life in Ximending, one can experience a minute or two of calm while waiting for the order to be ready.

Xiao Kui then takes her to Ay Chung Mian Xian (a.k.a. Ah Zhong Vermicelli), a famous eatery that sells nothing but vermicelli, more commonly known there as Mian Xian.

After a quick snack, she bids her new friend goodbye, and heads off to "Hua Xi Night Market", a night market that's been said to be possibly the oldest tourist night market in Taipei. After 50 years of business, it still stands strong, no doubt exuding a different vibe from the others. It was an eye-opener for Joanne-Marie, and its old-school charm didn't fail to leave a lasting impression. Especially the snakes.
